Tyhee Sahale means "Great Chief up above" in the Chinook trade jargon of the Pacific Northwest tribes.
For Eagle Wings Ministries, it is a fitting name for our ministry's live-in, residential "recovery house" longhouse. Patterned after the Northwest Coastal tribes longhouses, this facility will be "apartment-style" so that there is some individual privacy in the living units while keeping a close-knit sense of community. This is our Vision: a facility where individuals and/or families can stay and live while they work on themselves, utilizing a staff of trained counselors, ministers, teachers and mentors to heal from addictions and past abuse.
Many of our staff have experienced the positive effects of "inpatient" or residential treatment in their own lives, and we believe it is a necessary and integral part of truly helping most Native People to gain a more sure recovery. Some of our staff are presently or recently involved in counseling or administration in residential treatment programs.
