We have experienced Jesus Christ as the true Wounded Healer Who understands our pain and can fully heal our wounds. He works through the ministry of counseling in addressing and healing the wounds from past traumatic and hurtful experiences. As one person put it: "If you don't heal the wounds of your past, they will bleed into your future."
Jesus, God in the flesh, Who experienced this same earthly life as we do, with all its disappointments, tragedies, griefs, losses and abuses, can therefore understand the debilitating results of the pain. We can trust Him, since He's walked in our shoes and is one and the same with God, the very Source of love, to compassionately, empathetically minister His healing grace to our painful memories and remove the sting so that those memories no longer inhibit our present relationships and lives.
Yet Christ works through His people, through those He's gifted in counseling abilities and wisdom. He works through trained and proven counselors in a healing process of facing our painful past incidents in the Presence of His Spirit, the Comforter. He enables us to confront those incidents and the hurtful feelings attached to them and heal from them, so that the pain is removed and our hearts and minds are free again to love, forgive, grow and move on.
We also acknowledge the effects of "historic trauma" that pass down generational lines. We've sought to better understand and address this type of abuse in the counseling/healing process as more is written and taught on this more recent development in psychology. This is, of course, of particular importance for ministry with Native People in the USA.
